Grant Walker Camden on their 50th reunion when they were given the keys to the city. The 17th July was a saturday and interestingly 1993 was day to day compatible with 1943 so the 17th July 1943 was a saturday. |
HU-B was Eric Hart's Kittyhawk until 11/8/44 when Keith Hilyard in A29-587 ran up the back of him. This is probably 22 RSU at Noemfoor Is and is most probably taken in late August 1944 or early Sept. |
The American Red Cross lady with a good PR photo probably for Women's Weekly or some such thing. Morotai Island, so sometime from Jan to May 1945 in front of 'A' Flight Kitty. Would love to know which one. |
Morotai Island early 1945. Another staged photo. With S/L Dick Sudlow just to left of spinner with his hand on his gun. To the left Harry Kerr, F/O Peter Finch 2nd from left. |
Morotai Island, possibly early 1945 after Jan as Jack Eagle joined then. Pilots are L-R: Max Davey, Michael White, Len Waters, Jack Eagle and Frank Smith (seated). |
Morotai Is 11th Jan 1945. After successfully beating the US PT Boats and RAAF Spits to Japanese barges landing troops on Morotai Is. L-R: Frank Smith, Allan Beinke, Bill Henry, Michael White and Kevin Dodemaide. |
Noemfoor Is late 1944. L-R: Peter Cook, Kev Dodemaide, Alan Gawith, Ray Barker, Peter Finch, Les Vaughan. Front row L-R: not sure, Jim Anderson, Mike White. |
Possible Noemfoor Is late 1944. Denny Baker in cockpit of we presume his a/c and if so this is "Black Magic" HU-E A29-575. The reason for the location and date is that F/L Baker left in Jan mid-1945 and I don't think it was taken around that time, but could be Dec 1944 which puts it on Noemfoor or it may have been around the time Denny was acting CO Oct 1944 so again Noemfoor Is. |
Kevin Dodemaide in his(?) Kittyhawk. Not sure where this is possibly Morotai or even Noemfoor. |
L-R Michael White, Peter Cook, Jim Anderson and Peter Finch. Again this could be Morotai or Noemfoor. |
Michael White in Kittyhawk. This is the same Kitty as Kevin's above so it could be Mike's aircraft. |
S/L Adam "Curly" Brydon in front of his Kitty "Pistol Packin' Mama", believed to be A29-512 and possibly HU-Z (overscore). No idea where this was taken. |
It is an active volcano in the Halamaheras somewhere near Ternate on Ternate Island. |
"Harry" Kerr enjoying a quiet ale on one of the squadron bash nights. Either late 1944 or very early 1945 (ie. Jan 1945) |
78 Sqn pilots were transported up the west coast of Morotai Is in an American "Duck" to watch napalm bombing and then landed with protection of US soldiers. Of the three pilots at front facing the camera, the one of the left looks like Mike White. Not sure of the other two will try and work out who they are. The chap side on in the front looks like W/C Les Jackson. Time? Not sure but during Jan-Apr 1945. |
Eric Hart outside the scramble hut on Noemfoor Island. Some time during Aug - Nov 1944. |
Bash night with left front Harry Kerr and right front Dick Sudlow, behind Dick also kneeling is Denny Baker. The night was in either Dec 1944 or early Jan 1945. The previous mentioned photo of Harry Kerr (Row 7) was from the same night. |
Denny Baker at the Bash night. |
